(Epcot) Essays Page:

"Essay" means a writing in which you express your opinion. Yeah!

Originally essay meant a writing in which you used the writing to explore an idea.

I, personally, like to comine these two meanings: a writing in which I explore an idea in order to form an opinion.

What I wrote in the Ideas are essays. If you read any of them, let me know what you think. There are comments sections at the bottom of each essay.  The latest essay I'm working on has to do with teaching essay writing--if you have any experiences you'd like to share, or ideas about this topic, I'd love to see them.   Again, just put your thoughts in the comments below.

"Essay" also means a kind of assignment you get a lot. Sigh.

The program contains discussions on some of the more commonly assigned types of essays. You may be at a place and time where your teacher wants you to learn these forms. That's why they're here.

Eventually you get to where you use some, or all of the forms to write a dynamite paper.

But if you need to write in a certain form, here they are.

Then take your project through the Drafting and Editing stages.

The Narrative Essay: Tells a story. Usually something(s) you've experienced.  You thereby make a point, a moral to the story.

The Process Analysis EssayHow to...how to do something, how to make something and why your way is the best way.

The Division And Classification Essay: What's my grade?  Why do we separate the world into little chunks?  What's the meaning of "love?"  What cliques were in your high school.

The Descriptive Essay: Word Pictures. Make me want to go there.  How what your room looks like reflects who you are.

The Definition Essay: What "is" is.  Similar to Division/Classification.

The Argumentative Essay: Your opinion and why it's the right one.  (This link brought to you by Just Jef)

The program also contains a page with a list of suggested topics; we call it the Topic Generator
